Compatibility Analysis of Multi-Sensor Vegetation Indices Using EO-1 Hyperion Data

چکیده
In this study, we used a set of hyperspectral Hyperion scenes and assessed the effects of differing spectral and spatial resolutions on MODIS-AVHRR vegetation index (VI) continuity. Hyperion scenes were processed to simulate atmospherically-corrected normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and 2-band enhanced vegetation index (EVI2) values at MODIS Climate Modeling Grid (CMG) and AVHRR Global Area Coverage (GAC) resolutions. Our analysis of their differences suggests that MODIS CMG and AVHRR GAC VIs can be combined to generate a long-term data record, but would be accompanied by added uncertainties due to scaling differences.

Spectral compatibility of vegetation indices across sensors: band decomposition analysis with Hyperion data
Vegetation indices (VIs) are widely used in long-term measurement studies of vegetation changes, including seasonal vegetation activity and interannual vegetation-climate interactions. There is much interest in developing cross-sensor/multi-mission vegetation products that can be extended to future sensors while maintaining continuity with present and past sensors. In this study we investigated...

In this study, a comparative analysis of capabilities of three sensors for mapping forest crown closure (CC) and leaf area index (LAI) was conducted. The three sensors are Hyperspectral Imager (Hyperion) and Advanced Land Imager (ALI) onboard EO-1 satellite and Landsat-7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+). A total of 38 mixed coniferous forest CC and 38 LAI measurements were collected at Blod...
متن کاملAnalysis of Spaceborne Hyperion Imagery for the Estimation of Fractional Cover of Rangeland Ecosystems
The goal of this research was to investigate the potential of hyperspectral Hyperion (EO-1) data to derive fractional cover of rangeland components using constrained linear spectral mixture analysis. Hyperion image data were acquired over the Antelope Creek Ranch located in southern Alberta, Canada in July 2005. These image data were first corrected for the sensor artifacts such as spatial mis-...
متن کاملEvaluation of Broadband and Narrowband Vegetation Indices for the Identification of Archaeological Crop Marks
Several studies in the past have examined the spectral capability of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery for the identification of crop marks, while recent studies have applied different vegetation indices in order to support remote sensing archaeological applications. However, the use of vegetation indices for the detection of crop marks lacks in accuracy assessment and critical evaluation...
متن کاملApplication of Hyperion Data to Agricultural Land Classification and Vegetation Properties Estimation in Switzerland
On August 18, 2002, the Hyperion hyperspectral imager onboard the EO-1 platform recorded data over an intensively used agricultural area in north western Switzerland, the Limpach Valley. The sensor’s 198 spectral bands between 400 and 2500 nm (Level 1B1) and a spatial resolution of 30 m bear the potential for both a detailed land use classification and an accurate estimation of biophysical and ...
